A major new funding initiative has been launched to strengthen the capacity and sustainability of museums, archives, and libraries across Wales. The Enhanced Local Sector Support for Museums, Archives & Libraries scheme will provide over £2 million in revenue funding across the 2025–26 and 2026–27 financial years.
Announced 22 August 2025, the scheme is designed to help eligible organisations deliver on strategic ambitions while contributing to national well-being goals and wider government commitments. It marks a significant expansion of support for the cultural sector, complementing existing programmes such as the Transformation Capital Grants Programme.
Museums Federation Cymru welcomes this development, which prioritises collaborative working. Local authorities and cultural trusts are being actively encouraged to form partnerships and submit joint applications. By pooling expertise, resources, and local knowledge, these collaborations are expected to deliver more impactful and sustainable outcomes for communities across Wales.
The grant application window is now open and will close at 10am on Monday, 29 September 2025. Interested organisations are urged to begin preparing their bids promptly to take full advantage of this opportunity.
