Grants

Museum Federation Cymru are delighted to announce the launch of our Grant Programme for 2026 to 2027.

The Programme is funded by Welsh Government through the Museums Team, Culture Division, and administered by the Federation of Museums and Art Galleries of Wales.

The overall grant programme consists of four schemes: the Small Grants Scheme, the Equalities, Diversity and Inclusion Scheme (EDI), the Professional Development and Conference Scheme, and the Acquisition Grant Fund.

The grant programme was launched on the 5th May. Further details and application forms are available below.


Small Grants scheme

The Spring round of this scheme opened over Easter. A further phase will be launched in the autumn.

The maximum grant award is £10,000. Federation grants can be partnered with internal funds and other partnership sources. There is no longer a minimum partnership contribution of 10%.

Applications must be submitted to the Federation’s Grant Officer by 18.00 pm on Friday 1st May 2026.

Equalities, Diversity and Inclusion

Grants will be made available to support local Accredited museums in Wales to undertake activities and projects which specifically align to equalities, diversity and inclusion work, with priority given to activities working with and for LGBTQ+ and disability communities.

There are two rounds of this scheme in Spring and Autumn.

Applications must be submitted to the Federation’s Grant Officer by 18.00 pm on Friday 1st May 2026.

Acquisition Grant Fund

The Federation is delighted to announce the continuation of this grant for 2026/2027.

This grant is to support local and independent Accredited Museums (including Working Towards) in Wales to develop their core collections through the purchase of items including, but not limited to, items becoming available under the Portable Antiquities scheme. Material acquired at auctions and from collectors as well as from community collection activities.

The maximum grant available is £20,000.00. There is no minimum. No match funding is required.

This is a rolling grant programme with funding available on a first come first serve basis, however, we may not accept applications for purchases that cannot be completed before the 28 February 2027.

Professional Development and Conference Scheme

This grant is to support attendance at training and conferences to cover fees, travel and accommodation. There is up to a maximum of £1000 available.

This is a rolling grant programme with funding available on a first come first serve basis.
