With Halloween – Calan Gaeaf – falling on a Friday this year, it means the spooky season continues right into the weekend – and museums and galleries across Wales are still offering plenty of frightfully fun activities for families looking for last-minute half term treats!
The Welsh Museums Festival, supported by the Welsh Government and organised by Museums Federation Cymru, makes Welsh culture and heritage accessible to everyone through free and low-cost activities. This Halloween, we’re celebrating Calan Gaeaf – the traditional Welsh Halloween – with events running right through to 2 November.
Free activities
Halloween Trail Booklets – available at most participating Festival museums – first come, first served! Explores the history of Calan Gaeaf and Halloween traditions worldwide, with word searches, colouring pages and a museum ghost hunt. Check ahead with your local museum!
Pumpkin Trail and Scavenger Hunt and much more – Llandudno Museum, free entry until 1 November.
Spooky Pop-Up Pumpkin and more – Syr Henry Jones Museum, 10am-4pm on 31 October. Free craft activity with artist Wendy Couling.
Halloween at the Museum – Face painting, badge making and quizzes at Pembroke Dock Heritage Centre, 10am-4pm daily until 31 October.
Wicked Willow Weaving Workshop – Newport Transporter Bridge Visitor Centre, 10am-1pm on 31 October. Discover the Giant Baskets of Newport Transporter Bridge.
Low-cost activities
Halloween Half-Term Fun – Porthcawl Museum, 11am-3pm daily until 1 November. £1 per child, £3 per adult.
Potion Trail – Carmarthenshire Museum, 10am-5pm daily until 2 November. £2.50 per child.
Wwwwwelcome to Wales – Pontypridd Museum, two sessions at 11am-12pm and 1pm-2pm on 31 October. £2 per session, booking required.
Phantasmagorical Fantasy Shadow Puppets and Animation – Glynn Vivian Gallery, four sessions between 10:30am-4pm on 31 October, including quiet workshop. £3 per child, booking essential.
Torchlight Tours – Ruthin Gaol Museum, 11am-8pm daily until 31 October, tours from 6pm for older children and adults. All activities included in standard admission.
